Espresso machine cleaning powder „Urnex“ Cafiza®, 125 g
„Urnex“ Cafiza® — espresso machine cleaning powder
Odourless powder for daily backflushing of group heads and soaking portafilters. 125 g jar.
„Urnex“ Cafiza® is a US-made powder that keeps the shower screen and baskets clear for even extraction. It removes coffee oils and residue from espresso machine group heads, valves and lines, and dissolved in water it makes a soaking solution for portafilters, baskets, shower screens and other parts.
Its solubility and foaming are balanced for thorough cleaning and easy rinsing. The powder is odourless, NSF-certified (Protocol P152) for use on espresso machines and certified Kosher (pareve). One 125 g jar is enough for about 40 backflushes at 3 g each (our calculation).
Backflushing the group head
- Insert a blind filter into the portafilter, add up to half a teaspoon (3 g) of powder and lock the portafilter into the group head.
- Run the brew cycle for 10 seconds, then stop for 10 seconds. Repeat five times.
- Remove the portafilter, start the brew cycle and rinse the portafilter in the stream of water from the group head.
- Lock the portafilter back in and repeat the cycle five more times with clean water: 10 s on, 10 s off.
- Replace the blind filter with a standard basket, then make one espresso to flush out any traces of cleaner and pour it away.
Soaking parts
Dissolve 6 g of powder in 1 L of hot water. Put the portafilters, baskets or shower screens in the solution and leave them to soak for 30 minutes, keeping the portafilter handle out of the solution. Then rinse the parts with clean water.
If your machine's manual gives a different cleaning procedure, follow it.
Safe use
Caution: causes serious eye irritation (H319). Wear protective gloves and eye protection, and wash your hands thoroughly after use. If in eyes, rinse cautiously with water for several minutes, remove contact lenses if easy to do and continue rinsing; if eye irritation persists, get medical advice. Keep out of the reach of children.
