Citrus juicer „Bartscher“ CS1

Lever citrus juicer that starts automatically

The „Bartscher“ CS1 is an electric lever citrus juicer for orange, grapefruit and pomegranate juice — and, according to the manual, lemon and lime juice as well. It has a 230 W motor, and the cone turns at up to 980 rpm.

The lever itself starts the juicer: lower it onto a fruit half and press slowly, and the motor switches on automatically; raise the lever and the motor switches off. A separate on/off switch prevents the juicer from being started by accident.

According to „Bartscher“, the compact juicer suits bars, breakfast buffets, commercial kitchens and caterers.

Cone, bowl and strainer

The juicer comes with one stainless steel cone, which handles oranges, grapefruit and pomegranates alike. The bowl is stainless steel too. Both the cone and the bowl lift off and are dishwasher-safe.

A strainer sits in the bowl and holds back the pulp, and a splash guard fits on top of the bowl. The pressing cup on the lever covers the fruit half and presses it onto the cone, and the juice runs out of the spout straight into a glass or jug.

The silver body is cast aluminium, and the juicer stands on suction feet.

Using the juicer

Before first use, wash all the removable parts. Take the cone, splash guard and strainer out of the bowl. Undo the bolt anticlockwise and take the pressing cup, the spacer sleeve and the bowl lid off the lever. Wash the parts in warm water with a mild detergent, rinse them in clean water and leave them to dry, and wipe the motor unit and the lever with a soft, damp cloth.

Then reassemble the juicer: bolt the bowl lid, spacer sleeve and pressing cup back onto the lever (turning the bolt clockwise), put the bowl on the motor unit, place the strainer in the bowl, fit the splash guard and push the cone onto the motor shaft.

Place a glass or jug under the spout. Cut the fruit in half with a sharp knife — across the segments, not along the axis of the fruit. Plug the juicer in, put a fruit half cut side down on the cone and switch on at the on/off switch. Lower the lever so that the pressing cup covers the fruit, and press slowly until the motor starts and all the juice has been squeezed out. Then raise the lever, wait for the motor to stop and remove the peel.

When squeezing a lot of fruit, clear the pulp out of the strainer regularly — always switch the juicer off first and wait for the motor to stop. When you have finished, turn the switch to O.

Safety and overload protection

Do not press too hard on the lever: if you hear the motor slow down or stop, ease off, or the motor may be damaged. The juicer has a safety switch that turns the motor off if the juicer is overloaded. If this happens, turn the on/off switch to O, let the juicer cool down and switch it on again.

Never put your hands or kitchen utensils into the strainer while the motor is turning, and keep hair, clothing and utensils away from moving parts. Before taking parts off or fitting them, and whenever the juicer will not be used for a while, turn it off at the on/off switch and unplug it.

If liquid has got onto or into the motor unit or under the juicer, do not use it: switch it off, unplug it, clean the juicer and dry the surface it stands on. Do not move or tilt the juicer while it is running, and never leave it running unattended.

Cleaning and care

Unplug the juicer and let it cool down completely before cleaning. Clean it at the end of every working day, or more often if needed.

Wash all the removable parts — bowl lid, splash guard, pressing cup, cone, strainer and bowl — in warm water with a mild detergent; the cone, strainer and bowl can also go in the dishwasher. Clean the strainer with a washing-up brush, and soak any parts with dried-on fruit in warm water before washing them. Rinse the washed parts in clean water and leave them to dry or dry them with a lint-free cloth.

Clean the motor unit and the power cord with a soft, damp cloth only, then wipe them dry. Never immerse the juicer in water or any other liquid, and never clean it with a water jet. Do not use sharp or metal implements, scouring agents, or cleaners containing solvents or corrosive substances. Reassemble the juicer before using it again or putting it away.

Spare parts are ordered by the manufacturer's part numbers: cone — 015014620, strainer — 015014617, bowl — 015014616. Part numbers for everything else are in the spare parts diagram on the ‘Technical Data Sheet’ tab. Use only genuine „Bartscher“ spare parts and never try to repair the juicer yourself — repairs and opening the housing are a job for qualified technicians.

Dimensions and electrical connection

The juicer is 220 mm wide, 330 mm deep and 375 mm high, and weighs 8.6 kg. Stand it on a level, stable, dry, water- and heat-resistant surface, away from the edge of the table so that it cannot tip over. Leave at least 15 cm clear on all sides and enough room above for the lever to move freely, and make sure the on/off switch is easy to reach. Do not stand the juicer in a damp or wet place.

The 230 W juicer connects to a single-phase 230 V, 50/60 Hz supply through its own earthed socket — do not plug it into a multi-socket adapter or extension lead. Before plugging in, check that your mains voltage matches the rating plate, and lay the cord where nobody can step on it or trip over it. Never use the juicer with a damaged power cord — the cord must be replaced by the manufacturer's customer service or a qualified electrician.
